Jon Price Large Blue Crystalline Glaze Vase, California Art Pottery

About the Item

Rare, sculptural vase was made of pure, high-fire porcelain and glazed both on the inside and the outside. Blue and pink highly detailed crystals on crackled blue background were grown in a kiln during a very long, controlled firing. Each crystalline piece is unique due to the nature of the glaze. The vase was allowed to develop an abundance of distinct, graphic crystals, creating a free-flowing abstract pattern and adding rich texture to the minimally shaped piece. The vase is larger than most of Price's pieces, standing 11.75" tall. The base was ground flat to provide a stable footing. The piece is signed and numbered by the artist on the bottom. Jon Price is a 3rd generation pottery artist based in California, working exclusively with crystalline glazes since 1989. He formulates and mixes all of his own special porcelain clay and crystalline glazes, as well as makes special kilns he uses for firing. He has written a book detailing how to create crystalline-glazed ceramics; he exhibits nationwide, and is represented by several galleries.
